Need Hearing Aids? Learn More

If the audiologist at Acoustic Hearing Centre determines that you have a hearing loss, they will discuss with you your lifestyle and loss so you can pick the right hearing aid technology. We prescribe the hearing aids local residents have depended on since 2010, and we also offer cleaning and repair services.

How Hearing Aids Work

Hearing aids cannot replicate natural hearing but they can amplify sounds so you can hear them better. By turning up the volume on sounds, the tiny hairs in the inner ear vibrate and send the signals to the brain, which interprets them as sound so you can understand them. If that section of the brain does not get stimulated, it loses its ability to interpret sounds – so it will take your brain some time to re-learn how to interpret vibrations again. Pretty soon, you will be hearing things you have not heard in awhile!

Which Hearing Aid is Best for You?

Acoustic Hearing Centre prescribes a number of different hearing aid styles and will recommend one for you depending on your unique needs. Common hearing aid types are:

  • Completely in-the-Canal (CIC): The smallest and most invisible of the custom hearing aids. This type of hearing aid is suitable for hearing loss ranging from mild to moderately-severe and fits deep in the ear canal.

  • In-the-Canal (ITC): The combination of cosmetic appeal and wireless technology. This type of hearing aid is suitable for hearing loss ranging from mild to severe and fits in the ear canal.

  • In the Ear (ITE): The easiest of the custom hearing aids to handle. This type of hearing aid is suitable for hearing loss ranging from mild to severe and fills the outer ear.

  • Receiver in the Ear (RITE): The most invisible hearing aid that sits behind the ear. This type of hearing aid is suitable for hearing loss ranging from mild to severe loss.

  • Behind-the-Ear (BTE): The most powerful hearing aid available. This type of hearing aid is suitable for hearing loss ranging from mild to profound.

Why Get a Hearing Aid?

You are missing sounds that matter. Family members. The ringing phone. Your boss at work. A hearing aid will help you by offering:

  • Increased enjoyment of social activities

  • Better telephone communication

  • Enjoyment of music

  • Better communication with loved ones, friends and children

  • Understanding of conversations without guessing

  • Improved confidence

One or Two Hearing Aids?

Being able to hear with both ears -- binaural hearing – helps balance our hearing. Wearing two hearing aids will help:

  • Understanding of speech and conversation in noisy situations

  • Better localization of sounds

  • Listening with less effort

Other Hearing Assistive Devices

We also recommend hearing assistive technology that can help you hear your TV, music or telephone better; as well as hearing in a large group of people. Your audiologist will work with you and recommend the technology you need for your particular loss and situation. These devices can be used alone or in combination with your hearing aids.
