Save Your Hearing with the Custom Earplugs
Acoustic Hearing Centre not only helps you hear better, but we also help you continue hearing your best. We do this by providing hearing protection to prevent hearing loss.
What Causes Hearing Damage?
Exposure to loud noises (85 dB or more) is the leading cause of non-congenital permanent hearing loss. Loud noises destroy the tiny hair cells in the inner ear, which can never be repaired.
When You Need Custom Earplugs
Custom earplugs are best for reducing damage caused by loud sounds. Our solid hearing protection is customized to guard your hearing from damage in high-noise environments up to 29 dB. Read about some of the custom-moulded ear protection we offer here at Acoustic Hearing Centre:
-
Filtered Hunter’s Protection: For high-impact, quick noise such as firearms. The custom filter compresses the sound and provides hearing protection of up to 21 dB while allowing you to hear speech and environmental sounds.
-
Motorsports Protection: Fits comfortably under a helmet, providing protection from wind noise while still allowing you to hear important sounds around you.
-
Musicians’ Earplugs: Filters provide a flat attenuation to allow you to hear the sound clearly, but at a reduced level.
-
Sleep Plugs: Made smaller to fit comfortably even while you’re lying on your side, they provide a quiet environment for uninterrupted sleep.
-
Water Protection: Available with filters that allow sound to pass through, but not water – great for kids who have pressure equalization tubes, but still need to hear their parents while swimming.
Safe Earplug Tips
-
Place earplugs into the ear canal so that they totally block the canal. Earplugs come in different shapes and sizes and can also be custom made by taking an impression of the ear. Earplugs can reduce noise by 15 to 30 dB, depending on how they are made and fit.
-
Use earmuffs that fit completely over both ears. They must fit tightly so that sound is blocked from entering the ears. Like earplugs, earmuffs can reduce noise 15 to 30 dB, depending on how they fit.
-
Use earplugs and earmuffs together to achieve even greater sound reduction. Use of earplugs and earmuffs is recommended when noise exposure is particularly high.
-
Consider custom earplugs and musicians’ plugs if you are frequently exposed to loud noises. If you are an avid hunter or a musician, be sure to talk with your audiologist about these hearing protection devices.
-
Do not listen to loud sounds for too long. If you do not have hearing protection, move away from the loud sound and give your ears a break.
-
Lower the loudness of the sound if possible. Keep personal listening devices, such as MP3 players or iPods, set to no more than half volume. Do not be afraid to ask others to turn down the sounds from speakers.
