What Causes Tinnitus?
Tinnitus is usually but not limited to hearing loss. Certain medications and exposure to loud sounds for an extended period of time can also result in tinnitus. These conditions will actually increase neuron activity from the inner ear to the brain which interprets the extra nerve activity as sound. Tinnitus can even be caused by stress and exhaustion and ironically can disturb your sleep or raise stress levels. Treating Your Tinnitus
First, our audiologists will administer a hearing evaluation and talk to you about when it started and how it affects your lifestyle. Treatments can include desensitizing you to the sound (sound therapy), prescribing hearing aids (provided you have a hearing loss) and combining amplification with a soothing sound generator to mask the tinnitus.
